This task starts from an investigation with a group of guides participating in a extension project entlited: Restoration of Horto Florestal Olho D'Água da Bica, which performs, among other activities, interpretive tracks in the space of Horto Florestal Olho D'água da Bica, located in Cuité city, state of Paraíba. The study deals with the training of the environmental educator and intends to analyze and discuss the contributions of the extension project in the training in environmental education. The research is a qualitative approach, and used a structured questionnaire for data collection, in order to understand the participants' conceptions regarding environmental education and the environmental educator and the characteristics developed during the permanence in the project. The analysis of the answers was based on the assumptions of the Bardin content analysis. From this research it was possible to perceive that the university extension presented itself as an interesting tool in the formation of environmental educators, since it stimulated the self formation and made possible the engagement in the search of transformations of the social reality. The extension activities resulting from the trails in Horto are therefore valuable tools for training in environmental education at the CES / UFCG campus, capable of promoting reflection and critical thinking, communicative resourcefulness to deal with the public, especially children and adolescents of school age, as well as to stimulate the establishment of affective bonds with the place - Horto, with nature and with educational processes.
