Resumo:
This study addresses a topic widely discussed in the protection area today. With
modern technology, protection relays that were robust electromechanical and static relays
have become digital in which are much simpler and compact. That was the great incentive
of choice of topic. The work consists of a study of electromechanical relays and digital
focus of the digital SEL-351A relay, showing its various functions and its bene ts in the
same choice. At the beginning we have a basic approach on the history of the relays,
showing some advantages and disadvantages. Soon after we discussed the fundamental
principles of the relays, as well as the classi cation and the qualities required by a relay.
After a little theory of the basic principles of the relays, we focus to the overcurrent
function of both the electromechanical relays that are used today in power systems and
digital relays. Then we will discuss about the digital SEL-351A relay in which makes
the feeders, highlighting the multiple functions that have a focus for the functions of
instantaneous overcurrent and time-overcurrent. Finally, we make this relay using the
simulation tool AcSELarator Quickset and analyze results.
