Resumo:
This work aims to analyze the novels The Stepford Wives (1972), from the American writer Ira
Levin, and The Handmaid's Tale (1985), from the Canadian writer Margaret Atwood, in a
comparative perspective. Our category of analysis will be develop around the representation of
woman body, present in the novels. To this end, we investigate the protagonists from both
novels to engender our analysis. As a theoretical framework, names such as Revel (2005),
Cavalcanti (2005), Xavier (2007), Silva (2010) and Schaun & Schwartz (2012) were studied in
relation to the issues addressed. As methodological process, it fits into a qualitative and
interpretive research, allowing the researcher an exploration of the theme in evidence and the
resulting reflection from their own ideas about it. In both novels we reflect on the reality that is
based on social and cultural ideologies present in contemporary society, related to the feminine
body.
