Introduced by the Portuguese in Brazil, sugar cane has become one of the most important economic and social cultures. The objective of this work was to evaluate the growth of sugarcane varieties used in energy generation and sugar production under irrigation with wastewater. The experiment was carried out at the Agro-Food Science and Technology Center, Federal University of Campina Grande, Pombal Campus. The
planting was done in pots with capacity of 60 dm³ using four grinding wheels of a yolk. The statistical design adopted was a randomized complete block design in a 4 x 2 factorial arrangement, corresponding to four types of irrigation water (supply water - AA, nitrogen supply water - AAN, wastewater - RA and wastewater with Addition of nitrogen RNA), two cane varieties (RB92579 and C90-186) in the presence (CC) and absence of mulch (SC). The variables analyzed were: Leaf number, leaf width, leaf length, leaf area, stem height, stem mean diameter, stem number, fresh and dry stem mass, fresh and dry leaf mass, fresh and Dryness of the aerial part. Data were submitted to multivariate analysis of variance, the means grouped by the Scott and
Knott test at 1% and 5%, and genetic parameters were also estimated. Significant differences were detected between the varieties submitted to irrigation with water supply and wastewater. It was verified that in some variables where the culture was irrigated with residual water there was superior performance. The genetic parameters showed that the good performance presented by the varieties in the irrigation
conditions was mainly due to genetic effects, and this result was very favorable for the development of new varieties adapted to irrigation with wastewater.
