This paper is a case study on the topic "Challenges and possibities of teaching English in written form for deaf people". The research was carried out in a public school for the deaf, located in the city of Campina Grande - PB. The aim of this research is to analyze the teaching of English in the written form for deaf students by a hearing teacher. The first chapter discusses the theoretical assumptions of the research, with the main authors: Medeiros (2011), Sousa (2014 and 2015) Alves (2014), Sousa and Silveira (2016) and Carvalho (2014). The subjects covered are: The context of deaf education in Brazil; Trajectory of deaf education and teaching and teaching approaches; Methodological strategies for teachinh deaf students; Foreign language teaching and learning for the deaf. Communicative approach in English language teaching of English language in written form for the deaf; Challenges of Teaching English for the Deaf. The topics covered in the methodology are: Research classification; context and participants; corpus; data generation process; and the process of data analysis. The interview and questionnaire are used as instruments of this research seeking at identifying and describing the methodological procedures used in the clasroom by the teacher in order to investigate the difficulties encountered by her with regard to her teaching and student learnig. The results reveal that the teacher managed to use appropriate methodologies and approaches to teach students, such as the use of dynamics, games and visual materials, as well as the use of communicative approach and deaf pedagogy, but physical barriers, such as lack of materials and instruments, and the limited world knowledge of the students were some of the factors that hindered the sucess of the classes.
