The objective of this study was to study the growth and tolerance of pepper cultivars to salt stress in the seedling phase. The experiment was carried out in a protected environment (greenhouse) at the Agricultural Science and Technology Center - CCTA of the Federal University of Campina Grande - UFCG, located in the municipality of Pombal, Paraíba, from August to September 2014. They (C1 - Sweet All Big ; C2 - All Big, C3 - Italian Amarelo Gigante, C4 - Rubi Gigante, C5 - Hard Shell Ikeda) and five irrigation water salinity levels (0.6 (control) ; 1.2, 1.8, 2.4 and 3.0 dS m-1), arranged in a factorial scheme, 5 x 5, under a completely randomized experimental design with four replications and five plants per plot, totaling 500 plants Experiments. The plants were conducted in trays for 20 days after sowing, this period where the emergence, growth, phytomass accumulation and tolerance index of the chili cultivars were evaluated. The increase in irrigation water salinity reduced the emergence, growth and dry mass accumulation of chili plants, with cultivars C2- All Big and C4-Rubi Giant being the most tolerant to salinity in the initial phase of growth. The tolerance to salinity presented the following sequence C2- All Big = C4- Giant Ruby> C1 - Sweet All Big = C5 - Hard Shell Ikeda> C3- Italian Giant Yellow.
