Résumé:
Environmental degradation occurs in both rural and urban areas and along with it
comes the effects on people's health, well-being and safety. This degradation can
occur naturally or through human activity. The air pollution generated in the cities,
mainly by the vehicles has been contributing to degenerate the quality of the air.
Fortunately, several technologies in the automotive industry and some changes in
fuel composition are being developed to positively impact reducing greenhouse gas
emissions. The objective of this work is to survey the main sources (stationary and
mobile) of air pollution of the city of Cajazeiras, State of Paraíba, including an
estimate of the vehicular emission. The main fixed sources of the city use the burning
of the biomass as energy source to carry out its production. A four-gas meter was
used to measure carbon monoxide emitted by vehicles. High values of carbon
monoxide concentration were observed when older vehicles, such as holiday homes,
were traveling near the site of observation. Although the fleet of vehicles is not large,
as well as the number of fixed sources, but with the growth of the city, the sum of
these emissions may interfere with the air quality in specific areas of the city.
