Résumé:
With the progress and technological advances achieved in the last 100 years, it is possible to observe changes in the model of development adopted, generating inequalities in the distribution of goods and services, social standards of living, and environmental degradation. Today, a little more than half of humanity lives in urban areas, which ends up causing unsustainability in the urban environment, with several consequences, one of them being the poor quality of urban life. The concept of "urban quality of life" has been built, historically, from the concepts of social welfare, quality of life, environmental quality, poverty, social inequalities, social exclusion, social vulnerability, sustainable development and sustainability, In this way, its history is closely linked to the history of indicators formulated on the basis of these approaches. In view of this, the general objective of the present study was to analyze the urban quality of life index (IQVU) in the urban planning units in São Bento-PB. For this, was done a survey of the census tracts of this municipality and a bibliographic survey observing the social, economic and environmental dimensions, were chosen indicators that had as a mark the concept of urban sustainability, and therefore, urban quality of life. Thus, for the identification and evaluation of the IQVU of São Bento-PB, 14 indicators were defined, being these based on the dimensions Urban Infrastructure, Socioeconomic, Urban Equipment and Services and from then IQVU maps were generated, evidencing a segregated city, Whose São Bento urban quality of life index has been considered regular.
