Abstract:
Due to water scarcity in semi-arid regions of Brazil caused by geographic and climatic
conditions, especially in the Northeast, the problem of lack of water is a constant theme. In the search for viable and economical solutions in technologies that allow to confront this situation, the diversion proposed by Lima (2012), composed of duct-storage pipes with pipes of diameter of 100 millimeters, allows to capture and store rainwater besides treating the Through the reduction of solid particles by its operating principle which is based on hydraulic concepts of communicating vessels. In this work, we tried to improve this deviation device by reducing it by 25% of the original model in a first moment and in a second by adding a 6 cm thick sponge in its outlet for water storage. Rainfall was simulated in the study area, UFCG-Pombal House of Smoke, with an intensity of 10 mm / hour that allowed to analyze the behavior of the models in three tests for each prototype. The physico-chemical and microbiological parameters were analyzed according to Ordinance 2914/11 of the Ministry of Health and noted some parameters outside the recommendation and others within, but the reduced model with the sponge filter even stood out in the reduction of turbidity and coliforms In addition to obtaining greater economic cost and operational efficiency, exemplifying the application of this project in the
Federal Government's One Million Cisterns Program and showing the benefits that can be
achieved with the application of this technology.
