Abstract:
The growth of data traffic in communication systems, especially in the access segment, has guided
several research studies in order to avoid depletion of network capacity. This fast increase is
due, among other factors, the change of the modern user profile, flexibility of access, demand for
higher transmission rates, the popularization of broadband service and the demand for better
quality of transmission in broadcast and streaming services. In this moment, there are some
possibilities in access networks that meet the demand of high data traffic with better spectral
efficiency. This work was carried out both at the experimental and simulated levels considering
a WDM architecture with 16 Coherent QPSK channels with downstream transmission with 50
km reach. This work was carried out focusing on access network application, e.g. passive optical
networks. Performance evaluation was based on BER, EVM and SNR measurements.
