Abstract:
Artificial light is exceedingly important to the development of humankind and
society. However, 1.3 billion people which represents 19% of world population, have
no access to an electrical source. The NGO Liter of Light designed a cheap and efficient
solution to electrical lighting in hopes of improving education and security for those
who have no access to an electrical light source. This paper presents a way to make this
solution more efficient and a comparative study that proves if the suggested
improvement actually works. The idea consists of lampposts that utilizes simple
technology that includes low cost and recyclable materials, a small solar panel and a
battery. With the implementation of light poles, it is intended to decrease the likelihood
of violence in the streets, encourage education, promote the movement of people at
night, warming up the local market, improving and empowering the community.
