Résumé:
The use of Biogas for electricity generation is a cleaner production concept with
environmental and energy efficiency, as well as reducing costs, it contributes to the
diversification and decentralization of energy sources. When this biogas comes from
sewage treatment plants, it means that there will be a reduction of methane gas emissions
and the generation of a form of renewable energy, thus providing the creation of policies
that take advantage of the biogas energy potential and its possible economic benefits ,
social and environmental, contributing to the improvement of basic sanitation in Brazil. In
this perspective, this work intends to analyze the energy potential of Biogas, generation
models, conversion technologies, general aspects of sewage treatment plants, the
challenges for its implementation, some models adopted in Brazil and abroad and socioenvironmental
aspects.
