Abstract:
In the past decades, there have been great technological advances in the areas of
Microelectronics and Wireless Communication. These advances have resulted in the
development and improvement of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The WSNs are
widely applied in various sectors of society. It is possible to group small electronic
devices with capacity for sensing and data processing and to put them together to
work on monitoring of specific events. In agricultural domain, the WSNs support
precision agriculture, reducing waste and increasing production by monitoring the soil
moisture and weather conditions. Different standards were created for the definition
and regularization of WSNs. One of these standards is the IEEE 802.15.4, which is
used by ZigBee technology. In this document, it is purpose a theoretical analysis about
WSNs.
