Resumo:
Considering the current energetic scenario, marked by a large expansion in the
consumption of electric energy around the world, the search for alternative energy
means grows, especially ones that offer good performance and less environmental
impact. Despite reflecting economic uprising and improving life quality, this expansion
may lead to the depletion of resources used for generation, as well as high-risk
investments in research regarding new sources of energy. Stimulating the efficient use
of energy in a modern and efficient way is a good alternative to contain consumption
expansion without compromising economic and social development. With that in mind,
energy realities in Brazil, United Kingdom, France, Canada and United States are
shown, analysing their programs, incentive measures and regulations, which make
energy efficiency a reality in the world. A comparative study is made and actions to
consolidate the national energy efficiency policy are presented. More than an obligation,
raising awareness and preserving resources is fundamental for the wellbeing of our
future generations.
