Resumen:
Due to the continuous use of natural resources, measures that seek to minimize environmental impacts are constantly applied. Ensuring social welfare, economic viability and environmental protection must be a major focus not only for society but also for large and micro industries. The objective of this work was to evaluate the environmental sustainability of the activities developed in the ceramics of the quilombola community "Os Rufinos", describing and characterizing the stages of extraction, clay processing and finishing of the ceramic pieces. The community is located in the São João site, rural area of the municipality of Pombal-PB. The analysis of environmental sustainability was carried out through the application of a checklist, based on the Environmental Management Accounting System (SICOGEA) method and on-site visits. The results regarding the index of environmental sustainability of the craft industry in the quilombola community showed high environmental performance, and commitment to the environment possessing a level of 71.7%, considering adequate according to the SICOGEA method. However, the improvement of the production system in terms of environmental issues is always satisfactory, where sustainable measures can be inserted throughout the manufacturing process of the ceramics, in addition to those already existing, seeking to ensure environmental sustainability and ecosystem integrity.
