Abstract:
Increasingly the incidence of pathological manifestations in buildings concerns professionals in civil construction and when they reach historic buildings the concern becomes even bigger. This stems from the fact that most of these historic buildings are old, having been built using building materials and construction techniques characteristic of their times that have been replaced by new ones over time. Besides that, the lack of periodic maintenance contributes to problems. Thus, knowing the importance of these buildings for society, was chosen as the object of study of this work the State School of Elementary and Secondary Education “João da Mata”, located in the historic center of the municipality of Pombal-PB and which was built in 1932. In search was carried out of the pathological manifestations existing on its facades, defined their diagnoses and proposing the appropriate therapeutic solutions. In order to provide the competent authorities with information regarding the cost for the recovery of these facades, cost surveys of two alternatives for the repair of the problems were carried out, the most economically viable being chosen. The ABC service curve was also created to identify which service is more expensive and which requires greater attention. Finally, with the work it was possible to conclude that the existence of a periodic maintenance program would avoid a series of problems and reduce the cost of repairs.
