Abstract:
The consumption of electric energy and natural resources has been increasing in
our society. The concern with sustainable development and actions of energy and
environmental management is gaining a growing space in Higher Education Institutions.
This has emerged from the educational approach, in preparing students and providing
information and knowledge on energy and environmental management and in the
practical examples embodied in the operation of their campuses, since the role of
universities is to contribute to the generation and diffusion of the knowledge, seeking
alternatives that help broaden the search for sustainability and energy efficiency is a key
element in this scenario. Faced with such relevance and the need for sustainable
development, this paper presents a study of the current scenario of energy and
environmental management in Brazilian HEIs, exposing the main concepts, programs
and management systems that seek to provide a more efficient and rational development
of natural resources. It also analyzes the energy and environmental management
programs by the HEIs of Paraíba. Finally, proposals are made that can be implemented
by the UFCG.
