Abstract:
The radiofrequency identification (RFID) technology is very popular in
commercial applications and it is experiencing an evolution with the insertion of Internet
of Things concepts into its existing systems. So, the need for more efficient and more
robust elements for corresponding to those new demands is increasing. One of the main
concerns in the RFID systems is the correct identification of the tags in applications where
it isn’t possible to predict the alignment between the tags and the antennas. With the
purpose of avoiding this kind of situation, the circular polarized antennas are suggested
as a reliable option. In this context, this work presents the design of a low-cost circular
polarized antenna for RFID systems operation in the American UHF frequency of
915MHz. Initially, it’s was made a study of antenna theory and then it was proposed a
design, which was manufactured using FR4 as the substrate. The antenna produced was
then tested and its performance was validated both in relation to the results obtained in
simulation as in comparison to those obtained for a commercial antenna.
