Resumo:
The continuous and rapid increase in energy consumption reveals the need for load
management. Among residential and commercial loads, air conditioners stand out as
the most consuming equipment. The Energy Research Office - EPE, for example,
estimates that electricity consumption by air conditioners in the residential sector has
increased by 237% in the last 12 years, reaching 18.7 TWh in 2017. Given this reality,
this paper proposes a demand-side management mechanism that is based on automatic
control of air conditioning activation and shutdown and blocking access at unwanted
hours, preventing misuse of the equipment, which would result in waste. A prototype
was developed that, among other components, uses a Sonoff Basic R2 device and a
NodeMCU board. A testing routine was developed, performed in the auditorium of
the Metrology Laboratory - LABMET at the Federal University of Campina Grande -
UFCG, and satisfactory results were found regarding the functioning of the prototype.
