Resumo:
There are few studies about snake communities in Paraiba, and even about the
ecoiogy and fauna! composition of these areas are atmost nonexistent. Therefore this
study has e fundamental importance for the survey ef species that can be found in
the Caatinga Paraibana. This work aims to survey the species of snakes found on the
site Olho Dágua da Bica, iocated in Cuité — PB, gathering information about natural
history, such as hours of activity end subsifete utilization and behavior, and to
compare the results with those of the other studies on snake assembiages. For the
inventory we used tvve methodoiogies: a visual search limited by time and chance
encounters by third parties. We recorded 14 species of snakes distributed in 5
(Boidae, Eiepidee, Viperidee, Ceiubridae and Dipeadidee) families and 12 genders.
The most abundant species ef the assembiage were Bethmpoides erythmmeias
(105%), Micmms ibibeboca (16,5%), Oxybelis aeneus (16,5%), Oxymopus
tdgemínus (105%) and Pseudeboa nigra (10,5% ). The method of ceiiection
"occasionei eneounters by third“ was the most eeiiected species and specimens. The
visual search time was limited by a iew capture success, recording only seven
species. in the essembiage in question there is a predominance ef species of diurna:
end terrestriei. The snakes of this assembiege is composed of typical elements of
open areas and so as forests. The composition of snakes of this area is most similar
to the Caatinga of Rio Grande de Norte than others assemblages of the Fioresta
Atlântica and Amazonia,
