Resumen:
This research was moti'vated by the importance of diagnosing the incorporation of
environmental dimension in the "Degree Course in Biology of the Center of Education
and Health (C'EH) of the Federal University of Campina Grande, as well as in research
and extension of the institution. This is a qualitative research that followed two
Complementary stages: a) document analysis of Educational Policy Project — EPP and of
the current official curricular matrix of the Course, beyond of the scientific production
(research and extension projects) directed to environmental area; b) aplication of
structered forms for egress students of the course to study their perception in relation to
the environmental theme, as well as the possible relations with practice in
Environmental Education (EE) of these future professionals. Our choice theoretical and
methodological for analysis and interpretation of data was based on authors such as
Bardin (1979), Fernandes Cunha and Marçal Júnior (2003) and Reigota (1995). The
results obtained showed that the environmental issues are somehow incorporated into
the curriculum, although as a incipient way, since of 67 (Sixty—seven) subjects offered in
the course just lO (ten) showed environmental approach. In addition, we note that there
are few insertions of environmental themes in research and extension activities of CEH
which doesn't offer a. sufticient institutional contribution to the training of
environmental educators. [n relation to the environmental perception of the students we
observed that they favoured basically a traditional tendency and a naturalist view
relating the terms Environment and Environmental Education just to natural features
which show up the lack of knowledge about the principles and objectives of EE, as well
as the difficulty of understanding multiple dimensions of the issue. We understand that
this training needs to be developed more intensively within a university because these
students must be prepared to search changes in society profile aiming to make a
conscious generation of their rights and duties able to develop direct actions improving
the quality of life of the human population and of the environment.
