Resumo:
The restructuring of the electricity sector took place during the 1990s, while
Brazil was going through a political crisis and the privatization scenario grew stronger,
establishing an environment of free competition in the commercialization of electricity.
The free energy market evidences itself by increasing the challenge and intensifying
competitions over the best deals in the energy business. The big consumers, once
limited to the local power supplier, now have control over their entire energy planning,
from the dealer and its prices until the ways and scheduling of the traded energy. With
this flexibility comes the responsibility to manage all consumption and follow the
standards set by the regulatory agency, to avoid penalties. It is essential to know how
charging works, as well as its rules and taxes, so that one can define the viability on the
change from the regulated to the free environment. The aim of this work is to bring a
first contact with the institutional agents that manages and organizes the electric sector,
with the economic agents that keeps this market running and with the trading systems of
these agents on the environments, highlighting their specificities and showing their
advantages and limitations.
