The basic concern this completion of course work (CCW) is to study the three-phase
induction motor and the two-phase induction motor, both in permanent and
transitional regime, and to realize the importance of this electrical equipment in
everyday life. This study intends to determine the parameters of a circuit equivalent
to an induction motor and to compare both types cited quickly in terms of certain
variables as power, current, torque and performance. It was performed a theoretical
foundation about induction machines considering the contributions of various authors
and also practical activities with two induction motors. These practical activities
consisted of the determination of the stator resistance, of the no-load test, of the
blocked-rotor test and of the load test using Foucault’s brake. The main result
obtained was the fact that the three-phase motor has higher torque than the twophase
motor, although it also has higher power consumption. It was concluded that,
basically, the parameterized equivalent circuit, that the power flow overview and the
attention to electromagnetic operation offer a good understanding of the induction
motor.
