Cannabis Sativa is a plant with the popular name in Brazil for marijuana, and best known due
to its psychoactive effects, despite this leading to distorted and misperceptions, generating an
aversion to Cannabis, which has great medicinal potential. Its pharmacological potential is
linked to the secondary metabolites present in the plant, whose main attention is turned to
cannabinoids. Studies show the therapeutic efficacy of the compounds tetrahydrocannabidiol
(THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), as well as the entourage effect of the other natural products
present in the species, for the treatment of various diseases. Aided by the knowledge that they
act in the endocannabinoid system, this being an important synaptic modulator involved in
motor, cognitive and emotional behavior. Among these therapeutic uses, we highlight the
application in the main adversities caused by Parkinson's. Therefore, this work aimed to
investigate and critically analyze the contributions of scientific studies on Cannabis Sativa, as
well as to scientifically demonstrate the efficacy and characterization of Cannabis against
Parkinson's disease. The research was carried out using the databases, Capes Periodicals,
Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SciELO), Science Direct, PubMed, database of the Federal
University of Pernambuco (UFPE), 14 articles were found related to the effectiveness of
Cannabis Sativa in the treatment for Parkinson's. Studies show therapeutic efficacy due to the
role of phytocannabinoids in motor changes, non-motor symptoms and great potential for
neuroprotection. Therefore, Cannabis sativa is an excellent therapy for the treatment of
Parkinson's disease, since the usual long-term therapy is limited, as the beneficial effects tend
to decrease with the progression of the disease, and patients usually present with motor
instability and drug-related problems.
