Abstract:
Neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss., Meliaceae) is an Asian tree appreciated for its pesticidal
activity and its various biological activities, such as the broad spectrum action against
pathogenic microorganisms. Among the compounds already isolated azadirachtin was
identified as the main active component. Nowadays the formulations of shampoos are being
increasingly used for incorporation of assets coming from plant extracts and has been
gaining market share because of the large biological activities and the small interactions.
This work focused on developing and evaluating the study of the active substance stability
and the shampoo cosmetic form using Neem aqueous extract. In order to reach this aim, it
was necessary the validation of the dosing method in addition to the stability evaluation of
the active substance and shampoo. Placebo formulations (shampoo) and shampoo containing
Neem extract were manipulated; subsequently they were submitted to a freeze-thaw stability
study. The result of the measurement showed the optimal concentration of extract containing
only Neem (0.01 g / ml), being the method not is robust, but the pattern is using water as
solvent at a temperature of 25 o C, neutral pH and with light exposure, under 24h of
extraction. With respect to the macroscopic evaluation of shampoos, they presented no
change in color and odor after 24 hours of being manipulated and remained in the same way
aíter the freeze—thaw cycle. Concerning about the pH values, Neem shampoo proved being
according to specification, with an average of 6.4; the viscosity was within the parameters
established by the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), in Which we obtained
an average of 2016 cP at time 0 with no significant alteration after the freeze-thaw cycle.
The shampoos foam power and the turbidity point were also acceptable. Thus, Neem
shampoo was stable at a time 0 and after freeze-thaw cycle under the conditions described.
