This research has as object of study the reading process. We understand that the development of reading occurs when we understand information, when we make sense of what we read in an active and critical way. Thus, the general objective of this work is to propose the teaching of reading starting from activities that develop skills and abilities in students with the literary genre fairy tale in a class of 7th grade. This research is of a qualitative nature, which based on the school reality of a public school located in the interior of Ceará, a didactic pedagogical proposal for reading for students of the 7th year of elementary education was prepared. Then, for the preparation of the proposal, the documents provided by the collaborating school and observations carried out at the educational institution were analyzed following an observation script.Observations carried out at the educational institution following an observation script. Studies have shown that the reading activities carried out by the school are not yet sufficient to make students competent and autonomous readers. Regarding the work with the literary text, proposed by the school, the study showed that it is carried out in a very basic way, preference is given only to what appears in the textbook with exercises focused on grammatical issues and gender structure. The observations and analyzes carried out culminated in a proposal for reading activities, according to the assumptions of Solé (1998) that guide the teaching of reading in three moments before, during and after reading the text.
