Abstract:
The present work had the intention to contribute with the study of the historical aspects of the Latin Language and the teaching of the Portuguese Language, besides presenting an approach in the textbook of the 1st year of High School, specifically, on the lexical aspect, having as its goal, the construction of knowledge in Portuguese, and this knowledge must be built around the teaching and learning process. For this objective to be achieved, we present the following specific objectives: Identify the main characteristics of classical Latin and common Latin; Understand how the process of expansion of the Roman Empire took place; Identify the linguistic processes that contributed to the formation of Portuguese in Portugal and Brazil; Describe 3 (three) chapters of the 1st year of high school textbook, bringing activities proposed by their authors; and, to expose new possibilities to work the activities, providing a better understanding of the contents. To carry out our work, assisting in theoretical discussions, we were used as references Othero (2003), Machado (2006), Bagno (2007), Hauy (2008), Coutinho (2011), Assis (2011) among others, which present us with a wealth of ideas about the historical process of the Portuguese language through the ages. As for the methodological nature of the work, the research is bibliographic, because it makes use of theories already proven and debated by scholars in the area, under a descriptive and qualitative approach, making use of some practices experienced in the classroom. As a result of the research, we present alternatives to better develop our activities, assisting students in the construction of knowledge, to understand the processes of changes that have occurred with the language until contemporary times, especially because these alternatives are the result of a finding after the approach carried out in the textbook, where it presents some gaps regarding the historical aspects of the language, with very short texts, activities that do not allow students to reflect, think before answering them, in short, the contents need to be better structured so that the learning to happen, in fact.
