Abstract:
Soil sustains life on Earth and its concepts must be considered from the initial formation of all
people, in a broad and expressive manner in order to generate change in attitudes and the
appropriate sense of identification and responsibility in relation to its conservation and
protection. The work aimed to analyze how the teachers of elementary school in the schools of
the city of Sumé-PB perceive the soil, the importance of the works, these contents and how they
are inserted in the pedagogical plan of these teachers and which ones are used to sensitize the
students about the importance to know and care for the soil. To this end, a perception study was
prepared based on a questionnaire sent via the Google Forms Platform to teachers in the
municipal network, after preliminary consultation via e-mail. The analysis made it possible to
verify that the teachers' perception of the soil still needs further study with training in the area,
that the information on the soil contents to promote and facilitate learning is important, and that
the use of a strategy to dynamize the classes and motivate the students find support in the
university's extension actions. In addition, we consider the approach to the theme of soils in the
textbooks of Geography and Sciences inadequate and out of context, and reference is made to
the activities of Education in Soils based on the extension actions of Projeto Solo na Escola /
UFCG, placing them as an important vehicle to popularize the knowledge of the soil, which
must be understood as an integrating element of the landscape and an essential component of
the different terrestrial ecosystems, fundamental for human survival, due to the countless
ecosystem services it promotes for food security and the well-being of the human community.
