Abstract:
The "garbage problem" is an issue that is present in current discussions revolving
around environmental conservation. Extrapolating the field of ecology, the destination
of the solid waste from human consumption, stimulates debate about sanitation, hygiene
and opens a bias for questioning the economic model in which we live, based on
consumerism and social inequality. In Brazil, the question about the destination of the
waste must be treated with great seriousness, because the country does not have an
infrastructure capable of providing a suitable destination most of the garbage produced
daily nationwide. Equally alarming is the lack of public policies to minimize such
problems. Based on studies conducted in this area, this research aims by studying the
particular case of waste produced by the fair city of Cuite—PB, quantify the items found
at the beginning and end of the fair, as well as watch the final destination given to waste
solids. The sampling methodology was performed from two samples on a monthly
basis. Between the months of April to August 2011, were used to sample the material
collected, four pipes 2 feet of PVC 20 mm, slotted forming 2 square meters. Where this
square was hurled 50 times randomly in the study area, all the garbage in this 2 square
meters, was recorded, counted and classificadocom manual spreadsheet based. Where
were transferred to Excel. The results obtained in this research show that the solid waste
with more impact in the marketplace of Cuite originated from organic matter, and this
material with great potential for use in composting. Other materials such as metal,
paper, plastic that can be reused and recycled, this material having an appropriate
destination.
