Abstract:
It is proposed, in this monographic study, to discuss the challenges and (im) possibilities of
quality public education in contexts of social vulnerability. In view of the delimited problem,
the general objective is to investigate the factors that interfere in the quality of education, in a
public school located in the outskirts of the city of Cajazeiras, Paraíba. In compliance with
this delimitation, the specific objectives are: to reflect the historical constitution of quality
education in Brazil, relating the general context to the school reality where the research was
developed; analyze the importance of teaching work in the face of quality education,
considering the view of teachers and pedagogical management on the subject; and, finally, to
understand the interference of external factors to meaningful learning, in order to identify
which methodological strategies the school makes feasible in promoting an education that
enables the full development of the student. To correspond to the proposed objectives, the
work involved the theorizations defined by the following authors: Campos-Ramos (2016);
Silva (2015); Dourado and Oliveira (2009); Moreira and Candau (2007); Lück (2004),
Gadotti (2003); Delors (1996); Freire (1996), among others. Regarding the methodological
path, the research is constituted by the qualitative approach of bibliographic-documental
character, where it was opted for the application and interpretation of constructed sources
(interviews), to guide the data analysis. Thus, the monograph is structured in 5 (five) parts,
comprising “introduction”, “3 (three) theoretical and descriptive-analytical chapters”, and
“final considerations”. As conclusions, it was possible to verify that there are innumerable
obstacles, in the institution locus of research, that hinder the educational development of the
students. However, it is understood that social quality education in Brazil can only be
considered utopian when idealized by a small group, but with the combination of different
instances, the commitment of professionals, investment and government management, this
goal is possible implementation. The challenges and (im) possibilities of social quality
education are related to an educational project under construction. However, quality in
education should not be the privilege of a few.
