Résumé:
This work aims to establish dialogue between literary narrative and historical experience urban. Want to search for characteristics of black city of Rio de Janeiro during nineteenth century, having as a major source tales of Machado de Assis. Therefore, we will present reflections on the genre of the short story as a historical source and analyze the design of black town in Brazilian historiography, as well as the relationship of the tales machadianos slavery. Therefore, the text aims to analyze aspects of black city, as the practices of torture against captives, everyday scenes and slave resistance, such as trails, barns and greengrocers, as well as discusses the issue of trafficking of slaves the Court and its social implications. Those surveyed include images as background to urban slavery recreated tales Machado.
