Abstract:
Knowledge about the ecological characteristics of populations of frogs present an important
feature, since these populations have a high microenvironmental specificity and small
capacity to adequate to anthropogenic interference making it extremely vulnerable to
environmental changes . This work aims to characterize the composition of anuran
assemblage of Olho D'água da Bica's Horto Forest as well as describe the microhabitats used
by these animals in the study area and its distribution over the sampling months. The study
was conducted in the Olho D'água da Bica Horto Forest (ODBHF), located near the campus
of the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG) — Health and Education Center (HEC),
in the city of Cuité - PB, located in the microregion of Western Curimataú of state of Paraíba.
Collected data and observations were made monthly for four consecutive days during the
night between the months of may 2012 to april 2013. The method employed for the collection
was the one of active search in the sampled area. The area is composed of three environments:
A permanent artificial small pond, an open area and a permanent soaked pond. They were
made hiking while traveling around and margins of each area. The evidence material was
deposited in the Zoology Curriculum Collection (ZCC). In the ODBHF were found l3 species
of amphibians, belonging to 10 genera of 6 different families ( Hylidae , 6 species; Bufonidae
, 2 species; Leptodactylidae , 2 species; Leiuperidae , l species; Pipidae , l species;
Microhylidae, l species). The frogs were presented and distributed in 12 microhabitats,
identified in the study area, such as water, grass, dry branches, lianas, wall, stones, puddle,
fallen log. The microenvironments with higher presence of species were water (8 species),
bare soil (7 species) and grass (6 species). The hylids had a higher plasticity of microhabitat
use, occupying about 10 environments. It was found that the greater number of individuals
took place in april 2013.
