Abstract:
Educational activities aimed at environmental conservation practices can improve the quality
of life of young family farmers, increasingly promoting growth and social integration. In this
sense, the work aimed to qualify and accompany young elementary school students, allowing
them to develop sustainable activities in the Cariri region of Paraíba. The research was carried
out at the Maria Leite Rafael Municipal Unit of Kindergarten and Elementary Education,
located in the city of Sumé-PB, where 49 students from two fourth-year classes participated,
aged between 9 and 11 years, during the period from May to December 2019. Modules with
the following themes were applied: Introduction to agroecology; Use of agroecological
techniques in plant production; Production of native seedlings, Sustainable alternatives for seed
storage; and Preparation and conduction of agroecological projects. They were divided into two
moments: one in person through videos, didactic drawings, conversation circle, classes and
dynamics and the other with practical classes where students put into practice the knowledge
acquired during the research. Several activities were developed with the students involved,
where the knowledge acquired by them was tested. The use of participatory methodologies
presents itself as techniques and instruments, which can subsidize the change of paradigms, as
the actors involved are part of the construction of knowledge, allowing old concepts to be
broken. Thus, the research presented a proposal for collective involvement for the local
development of the community, allied to the use of agroecological practices. In this sense, the
work carried out with the young students promoted the beginning of a new change, who are
agents of the dissemination of new knowledge, thus allowing sustainable practices to be
gradually inserted in their cultivation areas, reducing environmental degradation.
