Paleontology is the science that studies the past life form sthrough fossils and occupies a
place of great importance for Biological Sciences, had a bigrole inunderstanding the evolution
oflife on Earth. The objectivesofthis study wasto evaluate howpaleontology is presented, and
how it isinsertedin textbooks used by public schools in Cuité-PB, to investigate the occurrence
o f issues concerning the know ledge o f this area, seethe resources used by teachers Science
and Biology in education issues and identify potential "gaps" in education, in contrast to other
interactive methodlogyes used out ofstate. We analyzed twelve ofSciences textbooks
elementary school and three books o f biology in high school, adopted by ali public schools in
Cuité, as well as fourteen teacher sinter viewed were responsible for these disciplines. It could
be observed through the analysis, that textbook sbave addressed variouss issues related to
Paleontology very simple and that these issues are in cludedin other biological relevant. The
teachers interview edac know ledgedand agreed that the study of science is extremely
important for the formation o f the students and emphasized that their approach does not hap
pensatisfactorily. The little attention given to the paleontological contentis main lydue to the
low approach in textbooks. The use of new methodological activitiescan help improve teach
ingand learningof these issues and thus contribute to amore comprehensive training o f
students.
