Résumé:
The present work intends to make a study on the permanence of the activity performed by the
mourners in the city of Lavras da Mangabeira, CE between the years 1960-2020. In order to dialogue
the study with the historiography of cultural history, we interacted with the authors Barros (2003) and
Certeau (1982). As a basis for specific studies on bereaved we take the studies Araújo (2011) and
Menezes (2016) and Santos (2019) as nuclei. To understand the history of these prayers, we used the
oral history procedures as a research methodology. Using a semi-structured questionnaire script,
recording sessions were held with oral experiences by the prayer Francisco Eudes de Oliveira and the
prayers Maria do Socorro Moura de Oliveira, Helena Vitoriana da Silva, Maria da Conceição
Gonçalves Murici Chaves. We also interviewed Professor Maria do Socorro Almeida da Silva, for
reports on the city. Finally, we interviewed the prayers and faithful of the practice Edileuda Alves
Ferreira. With this methodology, we intend to enable the production of a historicity about ordinary
individuals, which enable the continuity of certain social practices. Thus, we find ourselves from the
perspective of studies of cultural history, popular religiosity, local history and the imaginary.
