Abstract:
The discussions proposed in this research were risen from the observation about the way
literature has been undervalued in recent years in schools, especially in the Elementary School years. In this level of learning literary texts are dealt with through the same strategies used to treat the so-called utilitarian genres. Taking this into consideration, the main objective of this research – considering the relevance of literature for the formation of the students – is to propose strategies to approach the literary text that can contribute to foment literary literacy, since it is a social practice. The state of the art based on Abreu (2006), Brandão e Micheletti (2011), Candido (2011, 2006) Colomer (2007), Cosson (2007), Dalvi (2013), Kleiman (2010, 2007), Marcuschi (2010, 2003), Melo e Magalhães (2009), Paiva e Maciel (2008), Rangel (2008, 2007, 2003), Rouxel (2013), Soares (2006), Zilberman (2009, 2007), among others revealed some factors involved in the inefficient teaching of Portuguese in forming readers of literature, among them, the process of teaching literature and the teaching of the literary text and its mediation through the textbook, which showed an urgent need of a change in this practice. In this process, the teacher figure occupies a fundamental place, since he is the mediator between the literary text and the students. Thus, its idea of teaching literature should consider a concrete experience with the rich diversity of themes and elements of the literary
text, aiming at leading students to experience aesthetic pleasure and to form in them a sense of literary sensibility, so that they can be conscious about the fact that the literary literacy fomented by the school involves planning, since it also involves a critical learning of literature. In this perspective, it was suggested in this research, an expanded didactic
sequence, based on Cosson‟s (2007) model, as a more effective way of teaching literature in Elementary school years. The activities proposed here deal with the short story “Venha ver o por do sol” [Come and see the sunshine], by Lygia Fagundes Telles, and aimed at building a community of readers in which the reading and the interpretations of the text are shared and built among and through the participants. The short story is analyzed in its aesthetic, cultural, historical, social and ideological dimensions, establishing several relations with other literary genres and other languages, also considering gender relations and the female condition throughout history in order to form critical readers. It is worth highlighting that the didactic and methodological proposal presented in this research should be seen as a valuable instrument of work for the Portuguese teacher.
