Abstract:
Even with the fight for gender equality going on for a long time, there are still
obstacles in society that hinder women's lives, to name a few, domestic violence,
moral and sexual harassment, rape, among others. These obstacles are
reinforced by gender stereotypes, which can even influence women's choice of
profession. Because this is a current problem, we must develop research like this
in order to prove this reality that the female presence is small in exact science
courses. Thus, the general objective of this work is to verify and discuss the
female presence in Physics and Mathematics courses, as they are traditionally
male courses. The research data were collected at the Academic Unit of Physics
and Mathematics, and they are the number of men and women entering the last
four years. A descriptive analytical analysis was carried out and tables and
graphs were made with the data so that we could analyze the female presence
in these courses, which were related to the reading of books and articles on the
subject. We found as a result that the female presence is lower in all courses and
shifts, confirming our hypothesis that in exact science courses the number of
women is still small, as a consequence of the presence of stereotypes in society
that influence the choice of their careers.
