Effort Return Systems are used on several engineering areas with the objective
of simulation, for example, of nanoparticles’ behavior, acoustic pianos and some
materials’ texture. The conception of these systems requires a lot of delicacy, since the
system must be smooth and any noise can result in a very different system from the
simulated one. This work was developed at ACROE-ICA Laboratory (Association pour
la Création et la Recherche sur les Outilsd’Expression- Ingénierie de la Création
Artistique) with the propose of studying three different problems of an Effort Return
System called TDR (Transducteur Gestuel Rétroactif - Retroactive Gestural
Transducer) crosstalk, audible noise and the amount of power dissipation. In order to
solve these problems, two crucial components were studied: the system’s power
supplies and amplifiers. Linear and switched power supplies, as well as a D-class audio
amplifier were tested. After a lot of tests, it was possible to conclude that the linear
power supply presents a better result for some applications, although it is a lot bigger
than switched power supplies. D-class amplifiers presented less power loss for the
system.
