Resumen:
When dealing with a subject that encampasses man's perception about its importance in
women's health must be emphasized the idea that men and women need to be seen as
individuais, both about their culture in relation to their individual and collective activities.
Despite the financiai and political independence wh.ich has been won by women. many
weaknesses can be seen when it comes to health-disease process. Daily experiences is the
need to gregarious family support provides mainly with regard to the partner, an important
source of security for facing adversity. a situation that cou1d compromisc homeostasis and
well-being. Thus, this study, in general. aimed to investigate the perception of man about his
importance in the promotion and restoration of health of the woman. In order to achieve the
proposed goal, this study adopted a methodological approach of qualitative exploratory and
descriptive, consisting of I O men enrolled in tbe Healtb Unit Family Abilio Chacon Son in the
city of Cuité-PB, from a semi-structured interview prepared by the researcher. After
collecting the data, the !ines were analyzed in the ligbt ofthe theoretical through the technique
of content analysis proposed by Bardin. The results show tbat most men do not accompany
their wives in health services, using lack oftime as an excuse. but believe in the importance to
follow their partners to the service, without any apparent resistance. With regard to the use of
contraceptive methods there were reports that defended the sole responsibility of the partner;
others confided that the two do not use contraceptives and those in which the two are
mutually caring. Given the above. we found tbat relationships between men and women refer
to socially constructed cultural standards, perpetuating the idea tbat men are not directly
involved in the promotion and restoration of health o f his companion., citing a lack o f time as
a major factor and because tbey consider such assignments as predominantly female fitting to
men only support function to the health o f his companion.
