Abstract:
The main objective of this work is to present a didactic sequence proposal with Google Translate through the comic strip genre. In addition, we seek to discuss questions about Google Translate as an automatic translation tool and the relationship of technological issues in English language teaching and learning. First, a brief analysis was made in the methodological historical line about the teaching and learning of foreign language and the possible translation practices in these methods in the classroom. Thus, we direct some reflections on the current perspectives of teaching translation in English language classes. Then, we review questions about the advent of technology in the school environment, as well as the importance of working with such resources in the classroom. We emphasized the arrival of technology in Translation Studies and its consequences, such as the field of translation and technology, which gave rise to the subarea of automatic translation and reflections on the use of tools to aid translation. Finally, we will propose a Didactic Sequence that brings activities that include the automatic translation of one of the famous comic strips by Calvin and Hobbes, the postediting of these translations, revision and cultural discussions about it, based on the parameters of Mossop (2014). Our research is bibliographic and propositional and the theoretical contribution is based on the principles of Alfaro and Dias (1998), Leffa (1988), Branco (2014), Brown (2001), Mossop (2014), Paiva (2008), Marcuschi (2008), Niño (2004), Dolz, Noverraz and Schneuwly (2004), among others.
