Resumo:
The lag between age and the difficulties with reading and writing in thc early grades of
elcmentary school, has already proven to be the major dilemma in continuing studics in the
later series. The poor academic perfom1ance, no doubt. goes through many causes. This work
aims to diagnose the academic perfom1ance and submit a bid to minimiLe thc differences. For
this wc asscssed the skills related to reading and writing through tests applicd in ordcr to
chcck the levei of learning from the 1st to 5th year in the municipal schools Cuité - PB. After
this procedure, the results were tabulated and exposed to the teaching staff of each school in
order to be drawn recovery goals. Altogcther, there were 463 students. For readers and \Vriters
thc skills we found that the total estimated 167 students read and undcrstand what they read
and of these 150 students producc texts. The remaining 17 do not produce texts and 296 do
not read and do not produce texts. The proposed measures involved the continuing education
of the teacher. preparing the environment for learning and knowledge sharing. After
application of these measures was made a new assessment v. ith the previous sampling and
found that a larger number of pupils read with understanding and interprcting texts.
