The geoprocessing of energy, use of satellite data in the energy context, use of
techniques based on digital image processing and the development of computational
tools enable and assist decision-making related to solar and wind power. This work
presents an algorithm based on digital processing of images to identify favorable areas
to solar and wind power. The identification of territorial regions is obtained from
information, mostly coming from satellites, contained in maps, climate, population
density, distribution of transmission lines, slope, hydrography, among others. This
information is parameterized according to specific methodology, and overlapped. The
configuration assign equal weights and different weights for the listed characteristics
and overlap them for the identification of favorable solar and wind generation. Two
assessments to determine the potential of solar and wind generation of a region are
executed: an evaluation objective, impersonal and not polarized; and a personalized
assessment based on a questionnaire involving experts from the renewable energy area.
The implementation of assessments, through parameterization, allows variations in
results and subsequent comparisons. The final product of the algorithm, in each case
evaluated, there is a map in which stand out in color, the more favorable regions, with
their geographical coordinates. The territorial area, case study evaluated was the state of
Pernambuco. Moreover, the results contribute to the improvement of research and
development of computational tools related to geoprocessing and use of satellite data in
the generation of solar and wind energy.
