In the dairy industry, water resources are used in numerous applications that range from the hygiene sector to the final product. In addition, these agribusinesses are sources of
environmental impact generators due to the generation of effluents, waste and atmospheric emissions. In this context, the present study aimed to assess the level of sustainability of a dairy industry and to propose the implementation of the Cleaner Production Program (P + L). The methodology used is based on the 4 stages of implementing a P + L program proposed by the National Center for Clean Technologies - CNTL, together with the Environmental Technical Guide for the Dairy Products Industry (2008), which brings twenty-seven (27) opportunities to obtain cleaner production for dairy products. Data collection was carried out through the application of check-list and questionnaires, in addition to technical inspections of the dairy facilities in order to learn about the industry's production system, making it possible to carry out its environmental diagnosis. After the technical inspections and with the performance of the company's environmental diagnosis, it was observed that the industry uses water resources too much, allowing the generation of a high volume of liquid effluents, in addition to the lack of effective structured programs that allow the minimization of consumption of water, and consequently the minimization and / or non-generation of liquid effluents. With this information in mind, a device for monitoring water consumption and a P + L plan with actions / proposals were developed, with the main focus on reducing water consumption and generating effluents.
