Resumen:
Over the last few decades, family farming has undergone a process of modernization
that caused profound changes in the way of producing and market. The
modernization actually imposed changes in the technical profile and which demanded
greater competitiveness. And information is access to arrive at knowledge. The study
has as its theme family farming in the Curimataú Paraibano and access to information.
It is a set of questions that defines the following research problem: family farmers in
the state of Paraiba have access to information? It was used as a theoretical
framework, family farming, foundation through bibliographic research with several
authors, as a research method was divided in two stages, exploratory research and
case study. In the case study, the data collection instrument was an interview applied
to 1 O farmers family, involving the community of Serra Baixa, municipality of
Picui-PB, as also direct observation visits. They arrived at the following results, given
the profile of family farmers in the community is predominantly male, with age group
between 41 and 80 years old, with low education and participating in entities
associative. Access to information is given to rural development considering local
knowledge. The desire to go back to school is unanimous, motivated to fulfilling a
dream, achieving independence and autonomy through reading and writing. Also
observed collective practice and expressions of solidarity between the farmers and
their families.
