Exclusive breastfeeding is the way to ensure optimal food for the growth and
development of newborns up to six months of age, providing benefits for both mother and
baby. Objective: To evaluate breastfeeding in the first 24 hours after delivery in puerperae and
their respective babies assisted in the Joint Accommodation. Metbod : This is a cross-
sectional, observational descriptive study conducted at the Joint Housing of the Elpídio de
Almeida-ISEA Health lnstitute, in the city of Campina Grande-PB, from April to May 2017
with 102 dyads o f mothers and newboms -news. For the evaluation o f the feed ing, the WHO
and UNICEF Form ofObservation and Evaluation ofthe Blow Job were used, which consider
five aspects to be analyzed: position, response, affection, anatomy and suction. Results: Most
of the binomiais presented adequate (good) scores indlcative of satisfactory initiation of
breastfeeding in the analyzed aspects. The worst results were related to the anatomy of the
breasts, since 34.3% of the pairs presented normal or poor behavior, such as: engorged and
hard breasts, flat or inverted nipples, breast tissue with excoriations, fissures, redness in
addition to stretched or fallen breasts. Conclosioos: The findings contribute to improving the
practice of care for the mother and child binomial, allowing a more qualified assistance, while
identifying favorable and unfavorable aspects that will allow a timely and timely intervention
that alieves effectiveness and effectiveness to the act o f breastfeeding.
