The equipment formed by the groups of ink and toner cartridges, classified as
peripherals of inkjet and laser printers, comprising paints or dust, formed by a mixture of carbon and polymers, stands out in electronic waste. It is important to understand which treatment or destination will be internalized by public institutions, since the information from some researches in the literature have shown that these devices, when exhausted their composition or useful life, are generally incorrectly disposed of and may cause contamination of water bodies,
soils and air pollution. Thus, this work has as main objective to verify the final destination of
cartridges for printers and evaluate their environmental impacts, in the Center of Legal and Social Sciences (CCJS) of the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG). It was sought to know if the said campus has performed and used the reconditioning of cartridges, simple recharging or remanufacturing, thus identifying the economy and sustainable development that these processes, before the replacement by acquisition of a new one, can offer. The results indicate that the best way is the remanufacturing, in the face of a reverse logistics with budget reduction and sustainable development effects, and that despite the contract have an environmentally correct disposal, and propose departmental printing solutions, for the cartridges, the institution analyzed has not done the same for the permanent cartridges used on campus. However, it proposed to create a booklet for guidance in the management of electronic waste for public bodies, pointing out the best solutions for reconditioning printer cartridges and alternatives for environmentally correct disposal of them, generating economy, recycling and sustainable development.
