Abstract:
The present work intends to identify the relationship between sustainability strategies and
Green Information Technology initiatives and, in particular, the reasons that led to their
adoption, the applied practices and the main benefits achieved from their implementation
in the Legal Sciences Center and Social. Technological advancement, increasing
environmental problems and new requirements of the market were factors that led
organizations to discuss the environmental issue and to be concerned with strategies
that would contribute to minimize technological impacts on the environment. A set of
sustainable solutions started to be developed and became known in the information
technology market as green solutions. Thus, the general objective of the research was to
identify the main Green IT practices adopted by the Center for Legal and Social
Sciences. For this, the deductive approach method, the case study as a method of
procedure, the bibliographic and documentary research and direct observation as a
research technique were used. It was noticed that the institution is concerned with
adopting sustainable practices in its management, that the Sousa/PB campus of the
University Federal de Campina Grande, already has a policy focused on Green IT and
that there are many possibilities for the development of new practices that will certainly
contribute even more to the sustainable development of the organization. Finally, this
study demonstrated the importance of the theme for public administrators and managers
in the IT sector, in order to plan and implement IT practices Verde in their organizations,
as well as for other researchers who aim to develop new research in this area of
knowledge.
