Resumen:
The purpose of this study was to analyze and understand the contributions of the history of
Physical Education to the educational practice of this curriculum component, seeking to
identify the perception of students from rural schools on the subject, since its history is still
reflected today. The interest for studying the perception of the countryside students about
Physical Education came from the school practice as a teacher of Body Culture of the
Elementary School II in a countryside school, in which one can see how each student thinks
the Curricular Component by several angles, that is, how it is seen in different ways and
importance. In this perspective, our research adopts the case study, with a qualitative
approach, carried out with 8 students of Elementary School II in the city of Sumé, Brazil,
through questionnaires we obtained answers about how Physical Education is seen, and if the
gender differences influence and interfere in the didacticpedagogical
treatment of Physical
Education. The research becomes significant as we see the results, where the students see that
Physical Education is important as a social formation, as they know and learn the spaces and
the limits of others, since it goes beyond leisure, but learn how to work the collective, the
differences in physical abilities, not having social and school exclusion. It is already known
that Physical Education is not only games, but a range of activities that work on social
construction and the formation of body and mind. Thus, students understand that the school
educational practices related to this component are to help build healthy lives and critical
citizens who are aware of their role in society.
