Y oung and Adult Education students have different perspecti ves on the future, rhey
believe that Youth and Adult Education can be a detenuining factor in school
education as weJI as in socialization, thus promoting improvements in the quality of
life, and this can happen through of solidarity economy practices. The culture of
using medicinal plants is a practice that has been prcsent since ancient times and is
passed on from gcneration to generation by indigenous peoples, traditional
populations that are made up of farmers, researchers. This work aims to perfonu a
survey of the ways in whicb medicinal plants are used by students of Youth and
Adult Education and their perspectives for a solidarity economy in a Municipal
School in the city of Picuí, Paraíba. This research has a qualitative and quantitative
character, whicb involves the obtaining of descriptive data, obtained in the direct
contact of the researcber with the studied situation. emphasizes the process more
than lhe product and is concerned witb portraying the perspcctives of the
participants about the use of medicinal plants, Using as main tools the application
of questionnaires and a Jecture-class. According to the characteristics of the system
of production of medicinal plants described in this research, family farming
presents favorable conditions for its cultivation. It is, therefore, another altemative
in the generation of cmployment and income through a solidarity cconomy for this
segment so important and represcntativc o f Brazil.
