Resumo:
The environmental crisis is the result of unconscious attitudes of the human being inserted into an extremely consumerist space where the process of sensitization and awareness for sustainable development is the National Environmental Education Policy - PNEA by means of Law. 9,795 / 99. In higher education, Environmental Education created a curricular and extracurricular graduation course of several universities. The general objective was to analyze the juridical-institutional norms and social-environmental practices of the Federal University of Campina Grande - UFCG within the scope of the Meso-region of the Sertão Paraibano. Methodologically the research is a case study with the use of the hermeneutic-systemic method. The PNEA regulates principles and objectives for Environmental Education in formal and informal education. The Statute and the Institutional Development Plan of the UFCG mention superficially the concern with environmental preservation and sustainable development. Assessing the dimensions of teaching, research and extension, the Campuses of Cajazeiras, Sousa, Pombal and Patos do not integrate environmental issues in an articulated and interdisciplinary way in these dimensions, because the approach to the environmental theme is based on isolated and fragmented initiatives. The adoption of socio-environmental practices stop on the traditionality of teaching, on the vertical view of knowledge, on the lack of sensitization of the subjects and on the lack of training or complementary training on the subject. What has minimize this reality is the initiative of some teachers in searching for postgraduate courses in the area of the environment. The relationship between the rules of the PNEA and the socio-environmental practices of the UFCG, in the perception of its directors, coordinators, teachers, students and employees, has not yet achieved effectiveness or applicability in order to reach EA fundamentals. It is concluded that even though the PNEA is incisive regarding its guidelines and its field of activity, the activities generated by the educational institution will not be able to insert in the man the sense of sustainable development and the awareness in the change of socio-environmental values.
